23rd Annual IMA Unity Tournament/Potluck
Once again, it is our tradition to finish the year with our IMA Unity Tournament.
The purpose of this tradition is for IMA students and IMA friends from different locations to meet each other and have a nice, friendly gathering. This friendly competition is designed for all ages and levels (white to black belt).
In addition to the tournament, we will have our annual Holiday Party Potluck, (a free event) with dinner entertainment by our very own karate-ka at 6:00 pm. (cocktail attire).
This is a “Do Not Miss” event! The party will be at the Honbu dojo on Saturday the 10th, the same day as the tournament.
Please download the following information, fill out your registration form/s and submit it to the IMA Honbu dojo office no later than December 5, 2016.
World Championship
The 23rd World Karate Championship was held on Oct. 26-30, 2016 in Linz, Austria. The competition had the break record number of participants. Over 1100 top competitors from more than 120 countries across the Globe came together to compete in the first world championship after acceptance of karate as Olympic sport for Tokyo 2020.
The United States was represented with US team members across the nation who worked hard to represent USA in this prestigious competition. Regretfully, only women US team could stand on the podium and claim the bronze medal in the women team kumite.
Kamran Madani, who was selected as alternate team kumite member, prepared himself with an intense training workout for the last few months. Unfortunately he could not have any chance to compete as the first three team mates on his group lost to other first three competitors (from Azerbaijan). Kamran was assigned as 5th person to compete.
The result of this trip was not what he was hoping, but he is looking forward with more dedication to next year competition.
He is thankful of all the support provided to him from our IMA family and many other friends across the globe.
Thank you to everyone who Participated in the 22nd Annual Rocky Mountain Gasshuku
For our 22nd Annual Rocky Mountain Gasshuku, we returned to the Inn at Silvercreek in Granby, Colorado; home of our first gasshuku and the many years that followed. Mother Nature smiled upon our return providing participants from several dojos in Colorado, Utah, Nevada, California, Missouri, Texas, New York, Kansas, Minnesota, Arizona, California and Florida with beautiful weather for training. On Friday and Saturday, students worked hard learning new kata, sparring and self-defense drills. Saturday evening was a warm gathering of close to 170 students and their families and instructors for dinner, a talent show, and dancing. Our Elite and Agility kumite training on Sunday gave the students an opportunity to learn how to be faster while using the new techniques they learned.
Also, our parents did benefit a fitness class led by Sensei Madani on Sunday morning prior heading back home.
IMA would like to extend a sincere, heartfelt thank you to all the students, parents, out-of-state sensei and participants, USA National Karate team coaches Dustin Baldis, and Akira Fukuda, and IMA’s very own Hanshi Madani, Sensei Madani for their efforts in making this the best camp ever.
Our special thanks to our honor guest Kiyoshi Ahmad Safi, Iranian coach with many years of experience teaching many national teams around the world who came all the way from Iran to help our participants develop better techniques.
We also would like to thank our special guest instructors Kiyoshi Richoux, Sensei Jesus Costa, Kiyoshi Mohammed and other guests from Florida; Sensei Jose Diaz and Sensei Riobo for sharing their knowledge with us.
If you missed this year’s camp, be sure to mark your calendars for next year: September 29-30 to October 1 2017.
