2020 Gasshuku

2020 Gasshuku will take place on October 10th at IMA HQ and Zoom.

We will be celebrating the 26th anniversary of Gasshuku in a totally different environment than previous years. This is our first in-person (& zoom) event since the start of the pandemic, and we look forward to your participation to keep the event beneficial and safe for everyone.
Join us for this in-person or zoom 2020 Gasshuku. Let’s enjoy some quality training together. Our goal is that despite COVID-19 events like this will give karate-ka additional motivation to stay engaged and to keep training.
This year event will include three sessions with focus of agility, kumite and kata drills to help developing speed and power in kata along with some drills to help everyone increasing kumite ability.
Attendance is limited to the first 50 who register. (We will maintain a waitlist if necessary).
Masks are required, and participants will be asked to maintain personal distances of at least 6-feet at this no-touch, event. Please bring your individual beverages and individually-packaged snacks. We will send the log in information for those of you who will be joining us by zoom.

Black Belt Testing

Black Belt Dan Testing on June 27th!

Join us on June 27th, in the open space across from the dojo, as we once again celebrate those junior and senior IMA students who will be testing for their next level of black belt.

The Dan testing will start at 8:30am and will last until about 2:00pm. Everyone is encouraged to come by the Middle school open field and support the students during their testing. And please note: the normally scheduled youth and adult classes will not be held on this day.

Due to unusual circumstances and to protest everyone’s safety and respecting social distancing, the black belt testing will take place outside of the dojo in the open field of middle school. All the group performance will take place outside. Once everyone is finished with the first part of testing, students will be divided by the group of 5 or less and will continue their kata and basic techniques inside of the dojo. For first time, we are also allowing students to choice virtual testing as well. There will be instructors supervising only those students as well.

We regret not to be able to offer any potluck this year. The state restriction and also for everyone’s safety we cannot have a large gathering. We hope to have the opportunity to hold the potluck at some point later in the year.

Good luck everyone!

Dojo is back on swing

After three months of virtual classes, we finally had the state approval to open the dojo for regular classes.
We continue our on line classes for those members who still feel comfortable training at home with the hope of having them joining us at the dojo very soon.
We also hold our first color belt testing last Saturday after pandemic closure and offered on line and on site testing. Our spacious dojo could fit everyone with lots of room to practice the basic and perform the kata all with respecting the social distancing.
All students and instructors must wear mask and respect the social distancing at the dojo. Dojo is being sanitized and cleaned after each class. Please stay home in case of fever as we check everyone’s temperature at the door.
Hope to see you all soon at the dojo!

We miss you all!

Dear IMA members & family,
It has been almost a month since we met each other at the dojo and we can’t wait to see everyone back to the regular classes again.
We would like to take this opportunity to THANK everyone of you for all your support of the dojo during this though time. We can’t find the right word to let you know how grateful we are, to be able to continue your training with all challenges that each of you are facing.
All businesses and families are suffering in many different ways and our dojo is not any exception. This is why we are thankful of you who are standing by our side and helping us to continue this journey until hopefully all goes back to normal soon. We could not survive without you so THANK YOU!

In the meantime and until we meet, enjoy this highlight of some classes.

Be safe and stay healthy!
