Wrestling Dropped from 2020 Olympic Program – The K is on the Way?

As reported on numerous news sites, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) recently voted to remove wrestling from the list of sports that will be featured in the 2020 Summer Olympics, opening up the way to potentially have karate be added to the list of 27 other sports, for a maximum of 28.

The list of eight sports seeking inclusion in the 2020 Games are baseball/softball, karate, squash, roller sports, sport climbing, wakeboarding, wushu (a Chinese martial arts sport) and now wrestling. Only one will be put on the 2020 program and it’s unlikely wrestling will be the one selected so soon after being dropped.

Please visit the official WKF website designed to help spread the word about bringing karate to the 2020 Olympics.

Have a Happy Valentine’s Day and Keep Training!

IMA Dan Testing & Black Belt Extravaganza – January 26, 2013

On January 26, many of I.M.A. Jr. and Sr. students and black belts (from the Honbu Dojo in Louisville, Colorado and other branches) will get together for another black belt testing experience.

With so many years of hard work and dedication to the Shotokan style of traditional Japanese karate, we will be rewarding each one of these dedicated karate-ka in achieving the next level of their progress.

The testing will start at 8:30am and will last several hours and everyone is welcome to stop by the dojo and support the students during their testing.

Please note: The youth and adult classes will not be held on this day.

Following the Dan testing (at 6pm), all I.M.A. members and their families are invited to join us for a Black Belt Extravaganza at the Honbu Dojo. The celebration is filled with demonstrations, an award ceremony and I.M.A.’s yearly recognition of several athletes.

Don’t miss this once-a-year celebration!
