2013 USA Karate National Championships and Team Trials Results

I.M.A. Honbu dojo was represented by 15 athletes at the 2013 USA Karate National Championships and Team Trials in Greenville, South Carolina. Ewan Albright, Alex Quiachon, Kamran & Kelara Madani, Lily Martinelli, Alex Matsumoto, David Muhammad, Kate and Kurt Nakasato, Jake Peters, Brandon and Kyle Sheridan, Zachary Smith Ken Umezono and Keon ZiaShakeri, trained for many extra hours at the dojo to prepare themselves for this intense competition.

Each I.M.A. competition team member had an outstanding performance. Four of our team members placed on the USA Team and will represent United States Karate in the upcoming Junior Pan American Championship in Colombia. Kamran Madani will also represent United States Karate in the upcoming Junior Worlds Championship in Spain.

The results of the four days of competition are as follows:

  • Kamran Madani: Gold medal in kumite team trials (representing USA in kumite)
  • Kelara Madani: Gold medal in kumite team trials (representing USA in kumite)
  • Lily Martinelli: Silver medal in kumite team trials and Bronze medal in kata team trials (representing USA in kumite; reserved member for USA in kata)
  • Alex Matsumoto: Silver medal in kumite team trials and Bronze medal in kata team trials (representing USA in kumite; reserved member for USA in kata)
  • Keon ZiaShakeri: Bronze medal in kumite team trials (reserved member for USA in kumite)
  • Alex Quiachon: Bronze medal in kata
  • Kate Nakasato: Bronze medal in kata
  • Kurt Nakasato: Gold medal in kumite
  • Brandon Sheridan: Bronze medal in kumite and kata
  • Alex Matsumoto, Jake Peters, Ken Umezono: Silver medal in team kata

19th Annual Rocky Mountain Karate Summer Camp

The International Martial Arts Association would like to invite you and your students to our exciting and memorable 19th Annual Gasshuku (Karate Summer Camp) the weekend of September 27-29, 2013 in Keystone, Colorado.

Keystone Lake
Gasshuku is a traditional retreat designed to allow a Karate-ka to focus on karate without the daily distractions that interrupt the learning process. By participating in this camp, you will learn many skills and form a better understanding of Martial Arts.

This year’s theme is “Respect” and, like last year’s camp, will include an optional competition on Sunday morning in Kumite for Int./Adv. levels!

The camp is open to all martial arts students, coaches, and instructors who wish to learn traditional Japanese Shotokan Karate as well as sport Karate. As in previous years, training will be held in four separate training areas with guest instructors and students will be separated into levels based on age and belt status. Please refer to the training schedule for specific levels and training times.

Also, be sure to join your fellow Karate-ka and their families for a fun-filled, lively evening at our traditional dinner – and dancing! – Saturday evening, September 28th.

Black Belt Dan Testing & Summer Potluck on June 29, 2013

Join us on June 29th as we once again celebrate those junior and senior IMA students who will be testing for their next level of black belt.

The Dan testing will start at 8:30am and will last until about 3:00pm. Everyone is encouraged to come by the dojo and support the students during their testing. And please note: the normally scheduled youth and adult classes will not be held on this day.

Following the Dan testing, all IMA members and their families are invited to join us for a potluck celebration picnic at the Community Park in Louisville. The picnic is from 3:00pm – 7:00pm. Check with Sensei Madani at the dojo for sign-up sheets for food and refreshments
