November 2013 Newsletter

A Note From Hanshi:

I would like to congratulate Sensei and Senpai McGavin (IMA North Fork) for their outstanding and well organized tournament on October 12th in Grand Junction, Colorado. They had close to 150 competitors and 20 referees.

I would also like to share a story of a recent event in my life. I had been invited by Sensei Philip Kalloo to travel to Trinidad and Tobago to give technical, coaching and referee seminars and to oversee the championship. It was a good experience and I met many high-level referees and competitors. On October 22nd I was on my way back home, flying to Miami on American Airlines flight #2282 when suddenly the cabin started filling up with smoke. There was a fire in the cockpit and one of our engines was leaking oil.

A Note From Hanshi:

The 19th Annual Gasshuku was a lot of fun with excellent instruction. We had over one hundred participants from all over the United States. Thank you to all the instructors and students who participated. We learned a lot.

I would also like to thank everyone from the bottom of my heart for sharing in my early 60th birthday celebration at the banquet dinner last Saturday. I was very emotional from the touching speeches given by my family, students and friends.

Thank you to Sensei Marius and Sensei Amadou for inviting me to Utah to give my annual seminar. The seminar was full, and everyone improved in their technical skills from last year. (Picture on pg. 3)
