Black Belt Dan Testing and Summer Potluck

Black Belt Dan Testing & Summer Potluck on June 23rd!

Join us on June 23rd as we once again celebrate those junior and senior IMA students who will be testing for their next level of black belt.

The Dan testing will start at 8:30am and will last until about 3:00pm. Everyone is encouraged to come by the dojo and support the students during their testing. And please note: the normally scheduled youth and adult classes will not be held on this day.

Following the Dan testing, all IMA members and their families are invited to join us for a potluck celebration picnic at cross street Park from the dojo in Louisville. The picnic is from 3:00pm – 6:00pm. We will be providing food and drink but please bring a dish to share as well. Please also check with Sensei Madani for any question in regard for food and refreshments.

Rocky Mountain Championship

The “2018 Rocky Mountain Championship” date is set for May 5-6.

The 24th anniversary of this championship promise to be even greater than previous years and with many other states and international confirming their participation, will provide another unique opportunity for all ages to have a great competition.

Whether a junior, senior or master competitor, you will most certainly find this tournament a wonderful experience.

Plan on also participating at the Referee Course on Saturday to get updated of the newest rules of competition as well as sharpen your technique for the competition by participating at the unique Kumite clinic on Saturday May 5th at the IMA HQ.

IMA students are back from 2018 US Open

The IMA Competition Team recently returned from Las Vegas, Nevada after competing in the 2018 Karate Junior International Cup and the 2018 Karate US Open. Thousands of karate competitors from all over the world were in Las Vegas from March 30-April 1 to participate in two of the most prestigious karate competitions in North America.

The IMA Honbu Dojo was represented by: Parth Kansara, Kamran Madani, Chuck and Tyler Price, Margot Hartley, Andrew Bullard, Kevin Patel, Alex Rini, Joy Hierlmaier, Kaitlin Swanson, Oliver Monkman and Morgan Holien. We are also grateful to our outstanding coaches, Kelara and Kamran Madani, Joy Hierlmaier, Michael Ford and Chuck Price.

A huge congratulations goes to all of the competitors and their coaches who ended up coming back to Colorado having earned 23 total medals over the 3 days of competition.

Regardless of any tournament results, however, the Competition Team, through their hard work, respect for the sport and dedication to the art of Shotokan karate, demonstrated once again why IMA one of the most well-respected organizations in the world of karate today.

IMA Team fund raising also would like Thanks everyone that participated in the team’s Tournament Squares fundraiser. The team did very well at the Jr International & US Open tournaments bringing home 7 gold medals & 22 medals overall! The winners of the Tournament Squares have been notified.

The team is shifting it’s focus to the upcoming Rocky Mountain Championship held at Monarch High School on May 6th. We hope to see you there!

IMA Competition Team

Hello IMA families,
This is a great opportunity to support the IMA Competition Team during their biggest tournament weekend of the year (March 30-April 1st in Las Vegas). Our team has been training hard, and would love for you to get involved as our cheering section at home. We’ll be tracking all the medals that the team wins at the 2 tournaments in Vegas (Jr. International Cup and U.S. Open).

The IMA Team Tournament Squares Game is our own version of Super Bowl Squares. Families can buy as many squares as they like for $10. Squares will be randomly assigned.
There are 8 categories, with a total of 90 squares for purchase. Squares will be randomly assigned the weekend before the tournament starts.

If we sell all the squares, the team will earn $450, and the other $450 will be awarded to the winners of each of the 8 categories ($56 per category). Winners will be announced 1 week after the tournament (by April 8th).

How to purchase squares: through PayPal (TeamIMA1340@gmail.com) or give a check or cash to Sensei or Hanshi (please fill out the sign up sheet at the front desk if you choose this option).

Good Luck Kamran

The second phase of USA Karate senior team selection will take place on January 13, 2018 in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
The top 6 competitors from last national championship will meet again this coming Saturday to claim their spot on the 2018 USA team for Pan American championship in Chile and World championship in Spain.
Our own IMA member, Kamran Madani will be among the competitors in -84 kg. He won gold medal in 2017 national championship and now he has to defeat 6 other competitors to once again represent USA in the two major competitions for 2018.
For those of you who are interested, please come to the US Olympic Center this Saturday and cheer up the competitors and mostly Kamran. There is no charge for admission. This is our home game opportunity and we need to take advantage of it and be as loud as possible.
