IMA Karate Team Returns from 2012 Karate Junior Olympics and US Open

The IMA Competition Team recently returned from Las Vegas, Nevada after competing in the 2012 Karate Junior Olympics and the 2012 Karate US Open. Thousands of karate competitors from all over the world were in Las Vegas from April 4 – 9 to participate in two of the most prestigious karate competitions in North America.

The IMA Honbu Dojo was represented by: Kamran & Kelara Madani, Alex Matusmoto, Lily Martinelli, Anneka & Zoe Pawlak, Keith, Tammy, Kate & Kurt Nakasato, Ken Umezono, Kyle Gordon, Jake Peters, Sam & Jake Rosenbaum and Sherri Murgallis (not pictured).

A huge congratulations goes to all of the competitors and their coaches (Jax and Sara Martinelli and Odile Lynch) who ended up coming back to Colorado having earned 23 total medals (6 gold, 5 silver and 12 bronze) over the 3 days of competition.

Regardless of any tournament results, however, the Competition Team, through their hard work, respect for the sport and dedication to the art of Shotokan karate, demonstrated once again why IMA one of the most well-respected organizations in the world of karate today.

Kyu Belt Testing on Saturday, March 31, 2012

  • If your current belt level is white through green/white stripe, your testing time is 9:30am.
  • If your current belt level is full green belt (and up), your testing time is 11:30am.

All students who are testing must be at the Dojo at least 15 minutes prior to your testing time.

If you or your child are testing, please pick up an application at the Dojo and return it no later than Thursday, March 29th. Applications will not be accepted on testing day.

2012 Rocky Mountain Karate Championship

Please join us for the 16th anniversary of the Rocky Mountain International Championship, hosted and sponsored by IMA Karate and sanctioned by USA Karate.

The competition will be held on May 6, 2012, at Monarch High School in Louisville, Colorado, USA. The purpose of this championship is to bring together all the traditional Karate styles to the Rocky Mountain area and to provide a professional, well organized, memorable, and friendly environment for all the competitors and instructors.

In Addition to the tournament, we will be hosting a referee seminar (with certification) on May 5, 2012. The seminar will be conducted by Fariba Madani a member of the USA Karate Referee Committee and a member of World Karate Federation Referee Commission. The New Rules of kumite competition will be conducted during the seminar and will be applicable at this championship. The presence of many national and international of USA Karate officials is another outstanding value to the championship.

IMA Dan Testing & Black Belt Extravaganza

On January 28, many of I.M.A. Jr. and Sr. students and black belts (from the Honbu Dojo in Louisville, Colorado and other branches) will get together for another black belt testing experience.

After many years of hard work and dedication to the Shotokan style of traditional Japanese karate, we will be rewarding each one of these dedicated karate-ka in achieving the next level of their progress. The testing will start at 8:30am and will last several hours. The youth and adult classes will not be held on this day.

All I.M.A. members and their families are also invited to join us for a Black Belt Extravaganza in the evening at the Honbu Dojo. The celebration is filled with demonstrations, an award ceremony and I.M.A.’s yearly recognition of several athletes.
