18th Annual “Rocky Mountain Gasshuku”

IMA’s 18th Annual Rocky Mountain Gasshuku was a great success!

This year’s Rocky Mountain Gasshuku was held over the last weekend of September at the beautiful Keystone resort at 9,300 ft. altitude. The students learned a lot of new techniques during Saturday’s training sessions and the Saturday night dinner was followed by many performances and singing and dancing that made the evening another memorable, fun time for everyone. The Sunday kumite competition added a new flavor to our training schedule and with the help and advice from the visiting coaches, everyone had a chance to be advised on their skills and improve their strategies.

IMA would like to extend a thank you to all the students, parents of students, out of state Sensei and out of state participants as well as Coach Dustin Baldis, Coach Tommy Hood and Sensei Cheryl Murphy for their effort to make this camp another successful event.

For those of you who missed this year’s camp, just remember to plan on the next year so you don’t miss the fun and (and a great learning experience)!

As you celebrate and cheer for the athletes competing in the 2012 Olympics, take some time to help IMA support the World Karate Federation in making the 2020 Olympics the best olympics there has ever been … by including the international sport of Karate!

The 125th International Olympic Committee (IOC) session will take place in Buenos Aires, Argentina in September 2013. The IOC will meet on September 7th to elect the host city of the 2020 Summer Olympics (either Tokyo, Istanbul or Madrid) and will also be considering the addition of a new sport for the 2020 Olympics.

The sports being considered for addition to the 2020 Olympics (a maximum of 28 sports will be represented) are baseball, roller sports, softball, sport climbing, squash, wakeboarding, wushu, surfing, beach soccer and, most importantly, karate!

The WKF has set up an official website to help in spreading the word about bringing karate to the 2020 Olympics. Please visit http://thekisontheway.com/supports to find out more about how to register as a supporter and help “Bring the K!”
