IMA Competition Team

Hello IMA families,
This is a great opportunity to support the IMA Competition Team during their biggest tournament weekend of the year (March 30-April 1st in Las Vegas). Our team has been training hard, and would love for you to get involved as our cheering section at home. We’ll be tracking all the medals that the team wins at the 2 tournaments in Vegas (Jr. International Cup and U.S. Open).

The IMA Team Tournament Squares Game is our own version of Super Bowl Squares. Families can buy as many squares as they like for $10. Squares will be randomly assigned.
There are 8 categories, with a total of 90 squares for purchase. Squares will be randomly assigned the weekend before the tournament starts.

If we sell all the squares, the team will earn $450, and the other $450 will be awarded to the winners of each of the 8 categories ($56 per category). Winners will be announced 1 week after the tournament (by April 8th).

How to purchase squares: through PayPal (TeamIMA1340@gmail.com) or give a check or cash to Sensei or Hanshi (please fill out the sign up sheet at the front desk if you choose this option).
Deadline to purchase squares: Saturday March 24th

Good Luck Kamran

The second phase of USA Karate senior team selection will take place on January 13, 2018 in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
The top 6 competitors from last national championship will meet again this coming Saturday to claim their spot on the 2018 USA team for Pan American championship in Chile and World championship in Spain.
Our own IMA member, Kamran Madani will be among the competitors in -84 kg. He won gold medal in 2017 national championship and now he has to defeat 6 other competitors to once again represent USA in the two major competitions for 2018.
For those of you who are interested, please come to the US Olympic Center this Saturday and cheer up the competitors and mostly Kamran. There is no charge for admission. This is our home game opportunity and we need to take advantage of it and be as loud as possible.
Good luck Karman!

IMA Unity and Holiday Party

Once again, it is our tradition to finish the year with our IMA Unity Tournament.
The purpose of this tradition is for IMA students and IMA friends from different locations to meet each other and have a nice, friendly gathering. This is designed for all ages and levels (white to black belt).
In addition to the tournament, we will have our annual Holiday Party Potluck, (a free event) with dinner entertainment by our very own karate-ka at 6:00 p.m. (cocktail attire). This is a “Do Not Miss” event! The party will be at the Honbu dojo on Saturday the 9th, the same day as the tournament.

The registration forms are available at the front desk.

Rocky Mountain Gasshuku

Our 23rd Annual Rocky Mountain Gasshuku, took place at Silver Creek Inn in Granby, Colorado; home of our first gasshuku and the many years that followed. Mother Nature smiled upon our return providing participants from several dojos in Colorado, Utah, Nevada, California, Missouri, Texas, New York, Kansas, New Jersey, Arizona, California and Florida with beautiful weather for training. On Friday and Saturday, students worked hard learning new kata, sparring and self-defense drills. Saturday evening was a warm gathering of close to 170 students and their families and instructors for dinner, a talent show, and dancing. Our Elite and Agility kumite training on Sunday gave the students an opportunity to learn how to be faster while using the new techniques they learned.
Also, our parents did benefit a fitness class led by Sensei Madani on Sunday morning prior heading back home.
IMA Competition team fund raising parents had a great idea to raise some money for our team by providing the parents and some of athletes coffee and snacks in the morning and during the short breaks.

IMA would like to extend a sincere, heartfelt thank you to all the students, parents, out-of-state sensei and participants, and IMA’s very own Hanshi Madani, Sensei Madani for their efforts in making this the best camp ever.

Our special thanks to our honor guests Coach Chad Eagan, Sensei and world champion Saeid Ahmadi and world and European medalist Sandy Scordo, with many years of experience teaching many national teams around the world who came all the way from different regions to help our participants develop better techniques.

We also would like to thank our special guest instructors Kiyoshi Richoux, Kiyoshi Mohammed and other guests from Florida; Sensei Jose Diaz for sharing their knowledge with us.

If you missed this year’s camp, be sure to mark your calendars for next year: September 28-30 to October 1 2018.
